We’re recruiting new train drivers at Ferrocarrils
Between 2025 and 2026, we’ll be hiring up to 70 drivers for our Rodalies Lleida routes, through FGC Rail SA, and the new Barcelona to Josep Tarradellas Barcelona–El Prat Airport service, through FGC Mobilitat SA.
- Must be over 20 years old.
- Hold a valid Category B Railway Driving Certificate.
- Have a driving licence and diploma for Category B certificates.
- Possess a current psychophysical fitness certificate as per Article 63 of Order FOM 2872/2010, dated 5th November.
- Certificate of Catalan level B2 (former B) or higher.
If you’re passionate about railways and want to earn your train driving Licence and Diploma, you’ll need to pass the exams from the State Agency for Railway Safety (AESF).
To take these exams, you first need to complete a one-year course at an AESF-accredited training centre.

Around 20 positions will be available in Lleida.
About 40 positions will be available for the Airport service.
You’ll be based in either Lleida or at Josep Tarradellas Barcelona–El Prat Airport.
Your work will start and end in the same location. If you’re a driver based in Lleida, you’ll work there. If you’re on the Airport service, you could be stationed at the Airport or in Barcelona.
The minimum age is 21.
You can start training at 20, but you must be 21 when you take the official exam.
Being a train driver demands a high level of responsibility and a strong focus on safety.
You’ll be responsible for up to 500 passengers who rely on your expertise.
The job requires concentration in a confined space, problem-solving skills and the ability to handle stressful situations calmly.
You need to have the Official Train Driver Licence and/or Diploma from the AESF (State Agency for Railway Safety) or a Category B certificate from another railway company.

For the new services in Lleida and at the Airport, we’ll be using RFIG tracks managed by ADIF. Spanish railway regulations now require these qualifications to operate on these tracks.
You’ll be hired by FGC Rail SA, which runs this service.

You need to have completed secondary education or vocational training.
Currently, there are no training options in Lleida, but we will provide information on the nearest schools.

There are two exam sessions each year: one in February and another in September.
The training takes about a year. For courses starting in September or October, the theory part wraps up in May, and the practical part is completed in September.
The course generally costs between €20,000 and €25,000. For exact fees, please contact the training centres.
